The 2021 Spanish F4 starts at Spa

The Belgian circuit will host the first three races of the season on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Twenty-six drivers of twelve different nationalities, will make up the largest grid in the history of the competition, which celebrates its 100th race this weekend.

More than five months after Thomas Ten Brinke’s victory at the Circuit de Barcelona, the drivers will return to the asphalt in an unprecedented event. The iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit will host the first round of a historic season for the Spanish Formula 4, with a record number of drivers and teams in 2021. A Grand Prix that will not only be special for the drivers and teams as it is the first round of the season, it will also be special for the championship, which celebrates its 100th race since its inception in 2017.

A season that already has a record number of entries in the category. Twenty-six drivers in eight teams with three new faces. From this season, the competition has added two of the most successful teams in the history of Spain, Campos Racing and Teo Martin Motorsport, the birthplace of great talents in international motorsport such as Fernando Alonso and Marc Gené. Also, the Irish team Pinnacle Motorsport has joined the Spanish Formula 4 this season.

A year in the calendar has been arranged in seven rounds, two of which are located outside the Spanish borders. Alongside the Grand Prix of Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, the championship will also travel to Portugal for the Grand Prix of Portimao in the third round of the championship. The five rounds within Spain will take us to the circuits of Navarra, Motorland, Ricardo Tormo, Jerez and Barcelona in the second, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh rounds respectively.

The action in this first Grand Prix of the season will start on Thursday 29th with the first free practice sessions and the qualifying session that will determine the starting order for the three races. Two of which will be held on Friday 30th, at 13:15 and 17:55 respectively, with a distance of twenty-five minutes and one lap. A distance that will not be similar to the race to be held on Sunday 1 at 10:00, which will be eighteen minutes and one lap.

A weekend full of emotions that Spanish Formula 4 fans will be able to follow live on the category’s official Twitch channel, with a programme that will allow viewers to follow the races with all the adrenaline and passion of our streamers. Likewise, on Thursday 29th there will be a live broadcast in which the season will be officially presented.

The director of the championship, Álvaro Martínez de Tejada, wanted to highlight the strength with which this championship is going to start, which will be the one with the largest number of riders in the history of the championship. “The expectations are very high, the growth is great and we are very happy. All the work that has been done in previous years is paying off and more and more drivers are looking at it as a strong championship in Europe”. Álvaro also wanted to highlight the enthusiasm with which the team is working for this season. “When you work in motorsport in the off months you work a lot, we are really looking forward to seeing the cars out on track in the first race. It’s the fruit of the work of all this time”.
