The circuit of Navarra will host the second round of the Spanish Formula 4 championship after the collective tests carried out this week at the circuit itself. Championship leader, Dilano Van’t Hoff, will try to extend his streak of three consecutive podium finishes at Spa Francorchamps.
After a first weekend of races in the middle of the ardennes forest, the Spanish Formula 4 will have its first Grand Prix of the season on Spanish territory. The Navarra Circuit will host the second round of the championship in which, once again, three races will be held on Saturday and Sunday, with the first long race taking place on Saturday at 7 p.m. after the corresponding qualifying. On Sunday, it will be the turn for the short race at 12:30 and the second long race of the weekend at 16:10, both after qualifying on Sunday morning.
This second weekend of races will be a chance to see what might happen this season in this closely contested category. In spite of the enormous talent accumulated by all the drivers participating in the championship, the first race weekend had a protagonist with a name and surname, Dilano Van’t Hoff. The Dutch MP Motorsport driver, who took his first two wins of the season in two long races, also finished on the podium in the third race to end a weekend that would have been perfect had it not been for the emergence of his teammate Georg Kelstrup. The Danish driver did not have an easy day in the two races on Friday and unexpectedly broke into the leading positions on Saturday after a good start. Georg got one of the moments of the weekend as he took the lead in a three-way overtake on the Kemmel straight, topping the Belgian hill to win an eventful race with just four laps to go.
Although Dilano didn’t manage to win in Spa, he will have a margin of error this weekend in Navarra. His 65 points give him more than enough margin to allow him, if necessary, to take out the calculator in case he drops out of any of the races this weekend.
However, his flying start to the season has not deterred his rivals, who still believe the championship is up for grabs, as Alex Dunne, Georg Kelstrup, Daniel Maciá and Pepe Martí made clear on the Spanish F4 live stream on Twitch. All of them concluded that the immense talent of the Dutch driver is undoubtedly a great personal challenge, however, none of them believe they have lost their chances in the championship after what happened in Spa.
This weekend will be especially important for Spaniard Daniel Maciá, who is looking forward to the Grand Prix to redeem himself after his mechanical failure in the third race at Spa, where he started in second position and was unable to start his car from the grid after that mishap. It will also be a special Grand Prix for Teo Martín’s team, which will field three cars on the grid for the first time this season. The addition of Mexican Jorge Campos, who was unable to compete at Spa, will be a step forward for a team that wants to break their poor run of results at Spa, where they were involved in several incidents.
All races can be followed live on the Spanish Formula 4 YouTube and Twitch channels at the above-mentioned times. We remind you that you can follow us on our social media profiles to keep up to date with the latest news of the championship.
