Jerónimo Berrío moves to Spanish F4 with MP Motorsport

Colombian teenager Jerónimo Berrío Mardo has signed with MP Motorsport for a switch to the Spanish Formula 4 Championship in 2023. It will be the 16-year-old’s second season in European single-seaters, Berrío having shown great progress in his first year in Formula 4

Berrío moves to Spain on the back of a successful first season at F4 level, having taken sixth in this year’s French series

Second full season in single-seaters for him

The highlight of his campaign was taking the win in a thrilling end-of-season race at Paul Ricard. Previously having claimed a second place at Valencia and two third places at Spa and Magny-Cours, the win in his debut season underlined the fact that the young Colombian has adapted well to his learning curve

Berrío will now embark on a full season in Spanish F4 while leading up to that, he will also compete in selected UAE F4 rounds this winter, again with MP Motorsport.

«I’m really looking forward to joining MP Motorsport for my second season in single-seaters”, comenta Berrío. “My recent test with MP Motorsport at Barcelona convinced me that competing in Spanish F4 with one of its leading teams is the best preparation for my next step up on the single-seater ladder. I’m eager to kick off my season with the team and will give it all I can!».

"Jerónimo will be a cornerstone in our 2023 Spanish F4 line-up, and I’m happy to welcome him to the team”, said MP’s team principal Sander Dorsman. “He has shown much promise in his first season in single-seaters, and we aim to help him deliver on that promise into 2023. A part season in UAE F4 will be further preparation for what should be a strong campaign in Spanish F4".

Berrío had a hugely successful career in South American karts before he progressed to Formula 4 in Europe. A champion in the Baby Birel category as early as 2012-2013, Berrío went on to take titles and runner-up positions at Micro and Mini Rotax Max levels between 2014 and 2018. The Colombian then proceeded to also lift the crowns in 2019 Panamerican Junior series, the 2021 Panamerican KZ category and the 2022 South American DD2 championship

The 2022 F4 Spanish Championship season will start next May 5th at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
