Kasper Schormans closes the season as drivers’ and rookie champion, while Mp Motorsport takes the teams’ title
An irregularity found in the engines of the cars of Nathan Tye and Elliot Kaczynski, following a review by the stewards, could deprive Drivex and its drivers of the win and second place in Race 3 of the F4 Spanish Championship at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Tye had led the race from start to finish, with his teammate Elliot Kaczynski 0.366 seconds behind, and Nacho Tuñón and Andrej Petrović, both of T-Code by Amtog, in pursuit. If the sanction is confirmed, they would be declared the winner and runner-up of the race, respectively.
The drivers’ title had already been settled in Race 1. Dutch driver Kasper Schormans (MP Motorsport), aged 17, was crowned F4 Spanish Championship champion in his first season in the category, and also took the rookie title. Mp Motorsport had mathematically secured the teams’ championship at Navarra, the eighth in its history in the series.
Marco Rodríguez, CEO of EPIC Championships, said: “Should the exclusion be confirmed, it would be a great disappointment to me, as Drivex is one of our historic teams. But we take something positive from this: I want to highlight the thorough work of our technicians, which guarantees the mechanical parity our championship requires.”
